Services through Cnet's Commerce Channels
CNET Enables Increased E-Commerce Success By
Making Value-Add Warranty Services And Nationwide Repair
Capabilities Easily Available To Its Merchant Partners and CNET
Data Services Licensees
February 28, 2000--San Francisco, CA--WarrantyNow, the premier
provider of Internet product protection plans and customer service
products, and CNET, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNET), the source for computers
and technology, today announced a strategic marketing alliance in
which WarrantyNow will provide online warranty service products
to CNET's 200 merchant partners. In addition, CNET will syndicate
WarrantyNow's products to its more than 40 CNET Data Services licensees,
which include Ingram Micro, Buy.com and Outpost.com. Under the terms
of the agreement, WarrantyNow will become a sponsor on the CNET
network, making a major financial commitment to an extensive, integrated
marketing campaign on CNET Online and CNET Television over the next
year. Additionally, CNET has taken an equity stake in WarrantyNow.
The online extended warranty capabilities on several of CNET's commerce
services will be launched throughout this year, providing a significant
profit center for CNET's merchant partners and Data Services licensees.
WarrantyNow's comprehensive marketing campaign includes advertising
across CNET's properties and integration of WarrantyNow's
online customer service products within CNET Data Services, CNET Store.com and CNET Auctions. CNET Data services provides the
most comprehensive and up-to-date product data to its licensees
with a standardized database of photos, detailed descriptions
and technical specifications of products. In Q1 of 2000, WarrantyNow
will define the extended warranty product, in-home installation
service and nationwide repair capabilities available for each
product within the database, allowing CNET Data Services' licensees
to easily and quickly integrate these capabilities within
their e-commerce sites.
In Q2 of 2000, WarrantyNow will allow CNET Store.com merchants
to also offer WarrantyNow's customer service products and
services to their customer base. By building a system that can automatically insert warranty products and services into each store
front, CNET Store.com will provide an inexpensive, incredibly
simple way for small to midsize merchants to provide industry
leading customer service online. Also planned for the year
2000 is integration of WarrantyNow's products within CNET Auctions.
"CNET has created powerful platforms for marketing our
services directly to vendors throughout the supply chain,
said Ron Goedendorp, president and CEO of WarrantyNow. "This partnership opens the doors for CNET's merchant partners and CNET
Data Services licensees to easily generate additional revenues
while providing critical customer support capabilities that
enhance online successes."
"The Internet is the great equalizer, said Richard Marino,
president of CNET. "By allowing merchants of all sizes to access
top-of-the-line product protection services, we continue to deliver
on our commitment to provide the best resources for today's online
shoppers, and to help our merchant partners to compete successfully
online."
