Rock
and roll returned to Fond du Lac as one voice
rang loud from the Windhover Center for the Arts
Saturday night.
Monovox,
a local rock band based in Madison, returned to
its Fond du Lac roots to play for fans, family
and friends. Monovox is the first-ever rock group
to play at the Windhover Center. Four of the five
Monovox members are Fond du Lac natives.
Members
of Monovox, which means one voice
or single voice, are Matthew Kramer,
drums; Cliff Hammer, bass guitar; Anthony Shaw,
lead vocals; Matthew Schaeffer, vocals; and Paul
Heeman of Madison, bass guitar. The four Fond
du Lac members met while attending Goodrich High
School. Heeman recently joined the group.
Pat
VonTresckow, also a Fond du Lac native, came from
Chicago to see his old classmates play on Saturday.
My
mother sent me the article that said that they
would be playing, so I thought I would come. We
all went to high school together at Goodrich and
graduated in 94. Im just here to support
them. This is my first time ever seeing them perform,
said VonTresckow.
VonTresckow
wasnt the only fan enjoying the acoustic
sounds and the interesting venue.
Jackie
Johll an intern at the Windhover Center, said
that she has been a longtime fan of the group.
Ive
heard them play before, but more recently I enjoyed
listening to their videos. I think that this a
nice activity because it gives people my age (18-25)
something to do outside of the local bar scene,
Johll said.
Monovox
played for a crowd of about 75 people at the Windhover.
The audience was composed of a variety of age
ranges. The youngest attendee was probably 2 years
old, while the oldest may have been 65.
A
group with universal appeal, Monovox has toured
regionally.
The
Monovox sound is an eclectic mix of a variety
of 70s, 80s and 90s musical
genres, described by band member Shaw as an eclectic
mix of post-modern rock.
