Donald G. Jones Appointed Trustee of Library of Congress Trust Fund Board
On January 1, 1999 Don Jones was appointed by then Speaker of The
House Newt Gingrich to the Library of Congress Trust Fund Board
(TFB).
The TFB is authorized to accept donations, bequests, securities,
or real property for programs, projects, and activities in support
of the Library's mission. The fund is administered in accordance
with the fund's purpose including any specific donor stipulations.
The overall objectives of the TFB's investment programs are to
support trust fund activities by: 1) providing a stable, growing
stream of payouts (from income and capital appreciation) for current
and future expenditures; 2) providing for the liquidity of investments
to make principal payouts; and 3) maintaining the "purchasing
power" of endowment trust funds.
The TFB consists of the Secretary of the Treasury, the chairman
of the Joint Committee on the Library, the Librarian of Congress,
two persons appointed by the President for a term of five years
each, four persons appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives
for a term of five years each and four persons appointed by the
majority leader of the Senate.
James H. Billington, the Librarian of Congress, serves as ex officio
chairman of the TFB.
