Fond
du Lac High School

Spirit
Enterprise, Inc. donated over 100 acres of undeveloped land, valued
at $1 million, to the Fond du Lac School District to be used as
a building site for its new high school. The gift was made two
weeks prior to a referendum and was strategic in incenting voters
to approve a $50 million bonding that allowed the District to
borrow funds for the school's construction.
The
new 400,000 square foot Fond du Lac High School opened to students
in September 2001. It replaced Goodrich High School, an 80-year
old facility that no longer met the needs of the community. The
new school, containing one of Wisconsin's largest student counts
within a single facility, will contain a full-scale field house,
a large commons area, a courtyard, new computer labs supported
with the latest technology, 1,500 on-site parking spaces, and
a 3,000-seat performing arts facility. The school will also showcase
one of the country's most advanced alternative energy structures
featuring a geothermal pond loop system which will provide the
school's heating and air conditioning needs at 20%-40% less expense
than conventional methods, as well as special air exchange systems,
window treatments and energy-saving lights and light sensors.
