The Fond du Lac Reporter
Monday, May 21, 2001

The Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce has established the Donald G. Jones Leadership Award.

The purpose of the award is to recognize a past graduate of the Leadership Fond du Lac program for the effort he or she has put forth in helping the community through volunteer service and through leadership abilities.

Janie McPhail, director of Leadship Fond du Lac, said it is appropriate the award is named in recognition of the support Jones has given to the Leadership Fond du Lac program.

Additionally, she said, he has set an example of communiry involvement and leadership in the community.

The announcement of the award was made by Association of Commerce Chairman of the Board Bob Fale at the May 16 graduation ceremonies for the 2001 Leadership Fond du Lac class.

The first award will be presented at the 2002 graduation ceremonies. The task of selecting a worthy receipient will be given to a committee appointed by the Leadership Fond du Lac Steering Committee.

Including those participants who graduated Wednesday, there are 57 graduates of the program.

National Exchange Bank and Trust donated the funding for the plaques that will be displayed at the Association of Commerce office and the one presented to the recipient at each graduation ceremony.

Donald Jones Award: Deserved Recognition

It is extremely appropriate that a Leadership Fond du Lac award is being named for Donald Jones.

The award will go to a graduate of the Leadership Fond du Lac program in recognition of his or her helping improve the community through volunteer service and leadership abilities.

Jones is known for his leadership and philanthropy in the community. His involvement and efforts on a variety of projects over the years have generally been behind the scenes and away from the spotlight.

The Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce made an excellent decision in establishing the Donald G. Jones Leadership Award, and the National Exchange Bank and Trust should be complimented for funding the plaques.

As the owner of radio stations and cable operations, Jones had a business card that identified him simply as the "Leader of change."

Don Jones is a leader, and this award will provide a little permanent recognition of what he has done for our community.

Starting in 2002, a Leadership Fond du Lac graduate how exhibited outstanding efforts on behalf of our community will be honored with the Donald G. Jones Leadership Award.

It will be a high honor to receive the award named for a truly big man, in many ways, in our community.
