eBay and AtHoc Announce New eBay Toolbar

Desktop Alerts, Convenient Search & Site Navigation Now Just a Click Away
Even When Users Are Visiting Other Web Sites

BURLINGAME - July 11, 2002 - eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY), the world’s online marketplace™, and AtHoc, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise communications and alerting software, today launched a new software program designed to help eBay users maximize the benefits from the popular Internet site. eBay Toolbar powered by AtHoc, will offer the eBay community efficient end-of-listing alert notices, more convenient search functions and allow buyers to track their bidding activity more easily, even when they are away from the eBay site.

The new toolbar, which is available free for download at <http://download.ebay.com> sits on a user’s computer browser and brings the power of the eBay marketplace to buyers wherever they are on the Web. With the eBay Toolbar, users maximize their activity by staying connected online and offline to their Bid and Watch lists via AtHoc’s proprietary desktop alerts.

“eBay Toolbar powered by AtHoc has been enthusiastically received during the initial testing period,” said Alex Kazim, vice president of eBay’s Platform Solutions Group. “eBay Toolbar makes it considerably easier for eBay users to perform essential eBay functions such as searching, watching, bidding and even winning the most coveted auction items.”

One unique feature of eBay Toolbar is the end-of-listing alerts. Buyers can now specify how many minutes prior to the end of a listing they want to be notified and receive an alert reminder that will appear directly on their computer desktop. “The eBay Toolbar, powered by AtHoc, is great news for the 46 million registered users of the world’s biggest online marketplace,” said Guy Miasnik, CEO of AtHoc, Inc. “AtHoc’s alert technology adds proactive functionality to users’ bidding capabilities - in short, helping eBay’s shopping enthusiasts to more effectively find and buy everything from trinkets to treasures.“

Additional benefits of the eBay Toolbar include:

  • Convenient Desktop Alerts remind buyers to return to their selected listings to bid. The alerts appear even when users are offline.
  • Simple (Yet Powerful) Searches enable users to search eBay easily with a single click directly from eBay Toolbar. Users can save recent searches and access many advanced search features such as searching by seller, category, or Buy It Now items.
  • Easy Listing Tracking allows users to see the items that they are watching, bidding on, and those they have won all in one place. Bid and Watch lists will be automatically updated with new information, and users can click directly through to the item to bid or get more information.

Prior to the launch, eBay and AtHoc conducted extensive pilot testing of the toolbar with eBay buyers. Based on empirical usage data and user feedback, the eBay Toolbar and desktop alerts helped buyers bid on and win more items during the testing period.
