DJ - We say good day to you from
Paris. We're at the outskirts of Paris
at this moment and we're 10 miles from
the Place de la Concorde, the center of
the city of Paris. It's midday on October
the 18th and as we planned it a year ago,
we are in the place at the time that we
expected to be in Paris. So God has been
good to us. With luck, hard work, skill,
a lot of combination of things, we have
arrived in Paris. We come to you from
10 kilometers outside the center of the
city, about to enter the city and we have
with us as a guest, one of the co-competitors,
John Matheson from Australia. We'll ask
Dr. Matheson to share with us his feelings
on this occasion.
Dr. John Matheson
- Well, it's been quite an exciting event.
It's a long, long trip that's over. In
some ways, we're all bored with it now
and wish it was completed, but nevertheless,
it will be quite good going into the Concorde
of Paris and parading up and down in Paris.
DJ - Doctor, you're
an observer of human behavior, what's
been your judgement of the people that
you've seen make this journey.
Dr. John Matheson
- They've been a wonderful resourceful
bunch of people. Amazing that some of
the cars have succeeded in going with
the disadvantages and the break downs
they've had, but the resources have been
huge and everybody's been friendly and
there hasn't been a sour face in the trip.
DJ - And lastly,
before you leave for the center of Paris,
what about the people that we've seen
along the way, several millions of people.
What is your reflection about the people?
Dr. John Matheson
- Mostly friendly and mostly grateful
to see us with the exception of the people
in Iran and to a certain extent India,
who were very aggressive, did a lot of
sand throwing, otherwise the trip was
terrific.
DJ - Well good luck
to you and it's been a joy to be with
you on this journey.
Dr. John Matheson
- Thank you.
DJ - We're joined
here by our co-driver who is excited and
nervous at the prospect of entering Paris
and here's Carl.
CS - We're here!
We're in Paris! 45 days, 14,000 miles,
15,000 miles, we're here, Paris! To all
friends and relatives, we're here! We
made it! We're in Paris! I'm shaking hands
with my co-pilot. We're watching the cars
go off and maybe we might have a little
champagne when we get to the Place de
la Concorde. Here's Don.
DJ - It's a beautiful
morning in Paris. Clear skies, cool temperatures,
we're about to put the top down for the
first time on the Packard and enter the
city. Everybody is very excited and upbeat.
We don't know what to expect as we go
into the city of Paris. It's just going
to be very exciting. So we're 10 minutes
away from departing, an hour from the
center of Paris, we are enjoying share
this experience with you. All is well
and we're proceeding and we'll give you
a further account as we eventually arrive
in the center of Paris. On behalf of Carl
and all of the participants in the Peking
to Paris Motor Challenge, this is Don
saying so long until our next update which
will be within a matter of hours from
the city of Paris, France. Good bye for
now.
