DJ -Today's update
comes to you from Cheyenne, Wyoming. Our
travels today brought us quite a distance
from Toledo to Cheyenne. From here we
proceed on to Salt Lake, Reno, Sacramento
and into San Francisco. That will be on
Friday. Today was a very good day for
both people and equipment because under
conditions of long distance, the equipment
performed well and people did well also.
The travel today involved going from Toledo
to Chicago, arriving in Chicago about
Noon, and then onto Davenport and through
Iowa in the afternoon, in the heat of
the day and arriving in the evening in
Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska. And then
during the coolest of the nighttime hours
going across Nebraska, a very vast and
large state, arriving in the early morning
hours in Cheyenne, Wyoming safe and sound.
The 1954 Packard, 40 plus years of age,
is performing better and better each day
as fine tuning takes place and the equipment
settles into this kind of use. We send
a compliment to Alan Bobilott and to his
crew who have worked on the car for several
months to bring it to the condition that
it's in and to continue to find ways to
make it even better. So Alan we thank
you so very much. You would be very proud
of the way the automobile is performing
under these conditions. Nothing out of
the ordinary today other than the great,
great distance of travel. We've covered
65% of the distance across the United
States and have done that over the course
of about 36 hours. It's estimated that
it takes 52 to 54 travel hours to go across
the US. Carl and I have a grin on our
face and we're aware that we're privileged
to be out here doing this. We're thankful
for our families who support us and allow
us to undertake this journey and adventure
and for that we're very appreciative as
well. We want to report to you that our
progress of traveling to Paris is well
under way. We're very pleased that we
undertook the initiative to make the across
USA journey because the 2800 miles involved
here go a long way to making us understand,
aware and prepare for the 12000 plus miles
that lie ahead of us in Peking to Paris
completing Around The World. A catchy
phrase, but very, very daunting task.
So the report for today, as you catch
up with us, is that all is well and that
the equipment is performing well and the
people are doing well. We're glad that
you took the time to check in on us as
we continue on our way, arriving in San
Francisco on Friday. All is well at this
point. So long for now.
