DJ
- Hello and Welcome to a trip Around The
World, by car, that is. We're glad that
you joined us here and we would like to
share a few comments with you before we
depart. My name is Don Jones and as a
business man, I have traveled a few hundred
times across America by airplane. I can
cross the country by landmarks from an
airplane without a map, but I have never
traveled by land from New York to San
Francisco. So I look forward to seeing
my country as part of the beginning of
this journey around the globe. Likewise,
I have traveled on other continents by
air, but rarely on the ground. So this
trip to see the interior of China, Tibet,
India, Pakistan and Iran by auto will
be a privilege. Also, to retrace what
happened 90 years ago, the journey of
the automobilist explorers will be an
inspiration, traveling by auto from New
York to Paris, the distance of 18,000
miles across 13 countries. To go over
the horizon on the surface of the earth
is to be able to still dream as an adult
and have a childlike wonderment of all
the possibilities and potential of people
around the world that you see as you drive
literally around the world. My co-driver
is Carl Schneider. He lives in California.
He
has been a classic and old car enthusiast
all his life. Carl's age is 66 and he
competes in auto rally competitions around
the world. He has joined with me in planning
the ultimate Around The World travel experience
that begins in New York this coming week
and ends in October in Paris. A lifelong
auto entrepreneur, Carl Schneider directs
auto dealerships in Eureka, California;
Ames, Iowa; LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Pensacola,
Florida. Carl and his wife Marcell have
an extraordinary fine family of six children.
Carl has been busy this year driving a
lot. He's competed in Ireland, Italy,
France, the Swiss Alps and the London
to Monte Carlo rally, along with auto
rallys in California. Carl has expressed
the opinion that it will be a privilege
to be a guest visitor to the interior
of China, Tibet, India, Pakistan, Iran.
And to see the countryside and meet the
people is one of the joys in his life.
Those are some of our feelings at the
onset of this epic travel. We will be
one of twelve teams from North America
(US, Canada and Bermuda). All the other
teams are from Europe and Asia. It will
be interesting to watch this trip unfold
and for you to come along with us by means
of this extraordinary technology. I look
forward to sharing future updates with
you. So long for now.
