CS - Welcome to the come along
trip. It's my turn to expound on the adventures
that we are looking forward to on our
trip Around The World. As I listened to
Don yesterday, it brought back my youth,
growing up on the prairies and hills of
western South Dakota and going to the
library on Saturdays when we'd come into
town, getting books by Richard Halliburton,
Seven League Boots and Seven Wonders of
the World. Maybe some of you older ones
will remember that he also did the movie
Travel Logs prior to World War II. He
wrote adventure travel stories with incredible
descriptions of places like Katmandu,
Pakistan, Constantinople, which is now
Istanbul. I read those and could envision
what they were and Narcelle and I have
seen many of them on our travels. But,
of course, on this trip, we're going to
see them all kind of at one time - the
Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, Mt. Everest,
the Taj Mahal, the deserts of Iran, many
interesting things. As Don was talking
about as a child putting the dots together,
I remember looking at the maps and during
World War II reading US News and World
Report, Time magazine and looking at pictures
in Life magazine of China, Burma and India,
flying over the hump, Flying Tigers, all
of these will be our mental pictures when
we're traveling across China and the Himalayas.
Bringing you up-to-date
on the car. It's on its way on a slow
boat to China. We have all the necessary
insurance papers now and have all our
medicines together, our camping equipment,
because there are a lack of hotels in
Western China and we will be camping out
in tents. Everything seems to be a go.
I keep thinking I must have forgotten
something, I usually do, but I haven't
found it on any of the lists yet, so it
looks like everything is all set.
I hope all of our friends
and relatives will keep in touch using
this 800 number and follow our progress
as we continue Around The World from New
York to Paris by way of San Francisco,
Peking/Beijing, the Himalayas, Pakistan,
Iran, Turkey, Greece and Italy. Our chief
technician, Alan, is improving. He's going
to be laid up for the rest of this month
but progress is fine. We're making plans
for getting everybody together in China
for our send off and in Paris for our
arrival October 18th. That's all I have
to say today. This is Carl, of the Don
and Carl come along trip Around The World,
signing off.
