CS - This is Carl Schneider of
the Don and Carl Come Along Show. We should
try to connect some dots today on the
progress that we've had getting all the
paperwork done, which we've mentioned
in the past, is quite onerous with Carnet,
which is the passport for the car, across
the various borders we're going to be
crossing, insurance for the car for the
different countries, and of course our
own visas. We're still waiting to get
our passport back from the Iranian Embassy
in London. That was the only place an
American can get a visa for Iran. Then
of course all the medicine and vaccinations
for driving around the world in various
climates and geographical locations that
go from sea level to as high as 17,000
feet above sea level and from deserts
to jungles to metropolitan cities of millions
and millions of people. Everything has
been put together for us. Looking forward
to leaving two weeks from today, August
28th and arriving in China the next day.
Don and I have been in close communication
to talk about the trip and everything,
but I had to make an emergency trip back
to LaCrosse where I made a stop between
LaCrosse and Madison at a little town
called Mt. Horeb. It has nothing to do
with going around the world, but in Mt.
Horeb, Wisconsin they have a mustard musuem.
Don Jones happens to be an aficionado
of mustard. He loves mustard. Well I found
a museum that has over 2,500 different
kinds of mustards and even has mustard
tasting. If you're ever in the Madison
area, Mt. Horeb is about 20 miles out
of Madison on 18 and in downtown Mt. Horeb
they have a mustard museum for those who
like mustard.
Back to connecting the dots
around the world. We got our tour books.
In an event of this kind, in a rally,
you receive a book that gives you, by
kilometer, each major turn, various landmarks
and of course, stops where there would
be gas available or food available to
make sure that we don't get lost. As I
read through them, I was pleasantly surprised
at the amount of detail that was included
so I think it will be quite a bit easier
than Don and my trip to Monte Carlo from
London. In the front of each book, there
were six to eight pages with a day-by-day
description of what we're going to be
seeing as far as Temples, canyons, mountains,
various battle fields and so forth. Very
interesting. It gives me a great deal
of enthusiasm for seeing these wonders
of the world as we go around the world.
I'm going to cut this a
little short because I am on my way to
Monterey, California for the annual Peeble
Beach Concord and historic racing at Laguna
Beach. I hope that you continue to tune
in to the Come Along with Carl and Don
show as we will be changing it several
more times before we leave for China and
then of course during the trip across
China and India you'll be able to tune
in. Thank you for listening to me and
I'd like to say hello to all my friends
and relatives. This is Carl Schneider
signing off on the Come Along with Don
and Carl audio update.
