Tuesday, September
30, 1997
Below is a release from Graham Robson of the
Rally Association in London on the tragic
accident that occurred on Tuesday, September
30th.
I regret that I must inform everyone that
yesterday there was a serious accident involving
one car competing in the Challenge. On the
approaches to Quetta (Pakistan), the VW Cabriolet
(No. 72) of the German father and son team
of Josef Feit and Rene Feit collided with
a bus. Tragically both crew members were killed
in the accident. No other Challenge car, nor
anyone else involved in the Challenge, was
involved in the accident, which occurred on
a public highway towards the end of the day's
run.
Speaking from Quetta, for the organising team,
Philip Young commented:
"We are all devastated by this awful event,
which has deeply affected everyone else involved
with the Challenge. Although it is the wish
of the competitors that the event should continue,
their mood will clearly be subdued."
