| I met Don Jones on 8-8-2000
in Wisconsin, and was very impressed.
His trip reminded me of my now-deceased
Father's trip from Minnesota
to Los Angeles in 1932 to see
th Olympics. It took four of
them 65days and 65 flat tires
to get their Model-T Ford round-trip.
This trip was a primary highlight
in his life, and brought many
opportunities for him to reminisce
about the same. Best Regards,
Tom Vertin. Breckenridge, MN.

| I found your website looking
for the artists, Konstantin/
Boudnikov. I bought some prints
in NY last weekend from supposedly
the artists, but I wasn't sure.
It began to rain and I helped
them gather their work. In return
they gave me a great deal but
I'm looking to purchase an original.
It seems looking for them, I
found you. It seems they found
you as well from the intro photo

all. Tracy |

| I have been surfing the
web for a while now looking
for information and you seem
like the best source. Your trip
sounds amazing. Just increditable.
This is what my friend and I
want to do, I would like to
know if you think it would be
safe and feasible. Starting
in Nepal, travel to Europe using
only public transportation.
We would be in Nepal by May
20th. We hoped to spend at least
a week there. Then head to India,
pakistan, afganistan, iran,
trukey. Probably the same route
as you. We are 2 20 year old
males with alot of traveling
experience. I was wondering
how you would sugguse I go about
reasearching such a trip. Should
I get books on every country?
Do I need visa's for every country?
Whatever advice you have would
be apreciated. You are an expert
on such matters. Thank you very
much. Mike Riegelman riegs@gwu.edu |

| Hi Don &Carl, My husband
Peter and I were actually on
an anniversary weekend trip
to Paris in October 1997 when
we accidentally stumbled across
the finish of the Peking to
Paris rally.It was so exciting
to see that we abandoned the
rest of the day's itinery and
stayed to watch all the cars
(including yours) come in. We
have lots of photographs and
memories of a thrilling finale
which was certainly the highlight
of our trip. I would just like
to congratulate you on your
achievements and thank you for
creating such a wonderful website

| Thanks Don, I have received
the tapes as well as the diary
of our marvoulous event. Very
fascinating to read your pages
as they came on the net. Meanwhile
we have read the note's Anton
wrote on the net, the book by
Fritz Walter, the book from
the father and son team in there
Bentley etc. etc. The following
is what happened to, of which
I am sure you are not aware.
Kermit was leading the event
when we set of from Xigaze.
We took a wrong direction and
drove for about one our south
instead of east. All the makrs
and notes in the route book
were correct. A filling station
after 6 K, a praying tower after
19 K. Gravel road after 27 K
, village after 32 K, bridge
after 54 K............no bridge........no
other competitors, we had to
drive back nearly 60 K, which
we did a very very high speed
and we lost 56 minutes. This
is what caused the left wheel
suspension to break shortly
before we went into India from
Nepal. After 2 hours of welding
we could continue. In Pakistan
on the track from Multan to
Quetta our right weel broke
off. In a dirt hut locals offered
to help us. At least 2- 300
people stood around the car
to watch us. some of them had
machine guns and bullit belts
around there shoulders. Once
the job was done I asked how
much I had to pay, the answer
was $ 0,75. He had been working
on the car with 3 men for 3
hours in a temperature over
100 degrees. I gave him $ 10,00
since I had no Pakistan money
left, shook hands and wanted
to drive off. At that moment
the 2 guys with the machine
guns jumped in front of the
car and would not let us go.
This is bad news I sayd to my
wife Jolijn, since the last
rally mecanics had already passed
us 2 hours ago, making us realize
we totally by ourselves. One
of the guys with the machine
gun started yelling and screeming
to the welder, what we found
out was that he ordered him
to make sure he gave us the
right change, under no circumstance
could we even think that they
were taking advantage of our
misfortune. That is our experience
in a third world country hard
to understand if you have not
been there. We were fortune
enough to be there, with you
and all the others. Look forward
meeting again soon. |

| Dear Sir(s), I am seeking
sponsors for an automobile trip
around the world in 1999 and
feel this would be a great opportunity
for an organization interested
in attaining worldwide publicity
and exposure. I am planning
to do this trip in an American
classic automobile, a fully
restored and slightly modified
1966 Dodge Charger built by
Dodge division of Chrysler Motors.
I would like to begin this trip
during the month of July '99
and start out from Los Angeles,
California. My tentative schedule
will include the following:
Drive from Los Angeles, California
north to Portland, Oregon or
Seattle, Washington; Ship car
over to Japan or directly to
Vladivostok, Russia; If to Japan,
will drive across and north
to furthest most point for shipment
to Vladivostok, Russia; Vladivostok
to Khabarovsk during the first
week of August '99; West across
Southern Siberia to Yekaterinburg
in the Ural Mountains; Yekaterinburg
to Moscow, Russia; Moscow to
St. Petersburg, Russia; Leave
St. Petersburg, Russia during
last week of September '99 and
travel west through Estonia,
Latvia and Lithuania; Across
the northern portion of Poland;
Through Berlin, Lubeck and Thuringen
Wald, Germany; Into France,
through Paris and on to London,
England; On board ship for Newfoundland,
Canada; across Nfld, Nova Scotia
and New Brunswick, Canada; Down
the eastern seaboard of the
United States; Across the midwest
of the U.S.; and back into Los
Angeles, California. I would
like to accomplish this trip
inside of three months. Would
your organization be interested
in partially sponsoring such
a trip? I would like to add
that I am currently a student
in College here in the greater
Los Angeles area. I am also
a professional truck driver
with over 2 million accident
free miles over a 16 year period
travelling across 48 states
and Canada during all seasons
and all kinds of weather. I
am married to a Russian citizen
and am currently learning the
Russian language. I've been
to Russia twice before, in 1993
and again in 1994. I went to
Moscow and St. Petersburg during
both trips. I am partially fluent
in the German language. My parents
both immigrated into the United
States from Germany in 1955.
I am 40 years old and live in
the greater Los Angeles area.
Among my goals are to receive
a Bachelors degree in Engineering
Technology within the next four
years. I currently hold the
following certificates: Basic
Electronics Technician certificate
FCC General Radiotelephone Operator's
License I currently hold an
Amateur Radio License and my
call sign is: N5WPG I am a member
of CAMASU, Claremont Association
Concerned with the Commonwealth
of Independent States. Please
feel free to contact me at your
earliest convenience regarding
this opportunity. In your opinion,
would joining an organiization
such as the one you are with
here in the SoCal area help
in any way to develope enthusiasm
for such a rally? Thank you
kindly for your time in reading
and replying to this letter.

| Aloa heroes!! I've seen,
surfing on the internet, your
pages about the travel that
u have made . . . u great!!!
I'm from Italy, 24, male and
I've made short journeys in
Europe with a Vespa 50 (Padova-Parigi-Londra...).
Now, I'm working about a travel
around the USA, meeting all
the people that I've knew by
Internet on some different chats.
The travel probably will start
in April 1999 from New York
and will finish 31 December
1999 at Las Vegas, after have
seen all the States of USA.
I'll buy a 60's car in New York
and I'll make the journey with
that, alone. Probably, I've
also some little sponsors from
Italy, but I wanna ask u just
one thing: want u collaborate
with me for a perfect organization
of this travel? I need some
assistance in US to prepare
the trip. I'm not asking to
u a sponsorization! I've all
the money for the travel, I
need only assistance. At the
end of the travel, I'll publicate
a book of the travel with all
the people met, with e-mail,
photos, and other. Waiting for
yours email. |

We thoroughly enjoyed meeting
you (as we drove the race route)-

rally accomplishment. It was
truly a test of endurance ...in
every way. (We are the folks

visited your gallery at the
Monterey Historics and Pebble
Beach each August - and mentioned
the painting of the pruple car,

you, especially as you cross
the finish line. There's only
one piece of advice that makes
sense at a time like this: Always
remember, when you are dancing,
to always keep one foot on the
ground! ;-) Good luck and Congratulations

| This sounds like a great
adventure. I am a two time finisher
of the La Carrera Panamericana

least a feel for what it is
you are going through. Our adventure
only lasted 7 days and 2000

| I've enjoyed reading your
journal. I once drove a 69 LTD
coast-to-caost and back, twice.
There is something relaxing,
in a way, about being on the
road like that. Your worries

Will the car keep going? Where
will I get gas? Where will I
sleep? All of the ambiguities
that plague our day-to-day lives
seem to melt away. Good luck.

I'm the proud new owner of an

thing...I thought they were
lisenting to their very powerful
computer workstation at home.

on a dream achievable in 45
short days. Glad you didn't
pick something longer! Keep
on keeping on. We love the postcards
and the girls love following
Poppy on his travels. Christy
wants to know where the baby
pandas live in the picture on
the postcard! |

| I just figured out that
this is how you get my message!
Hello Mr. Jones! Remember me?
I was with Mary on her b-day
at BW3's. I'm that girl that
is 6'1 . Happy belated birthday.
Mary is so proud of you. She
just beams when she tells us
of your adventures at school.
I also got to meet your wife
when she was here visiting Mary.
She is really sweet. I can't
tell you how cool this whole
trip is that you are doing!
Mary is lucky to have such an
adventurous dad. Good luck!

| Don, Your trip is fascinating.
I'm glad to hear you made it
over the Cuyahoga River. It's
nice to hear that it ranks with
the other bridges of the world.
Hope all is well, we're following
along vicariously. But I think
I'll be avoiding Nepal if I
get the chance. |

| Hey guys! How about more
info on how the Packard is doing?
Do you ever put the top down?
Is it comfortable enough over
all those hours? Can one of
you snooze while the other drives?
Does it look anything like it
did a month ago? I know, Ask
the man who owns one . I just
did. Keep up the incredible
effort! |
